Back in the 80s, there used to be a little known nightclub in the prominent city of Newark, New Jersey. It’s reputation of pushing the garage scene movement into popular culture preceded itself, and Club Zanzibar was the birthplace of many famed DJs like Tony Humphries and Tee Scott, who would find their love for music in the Garden State. The club’s legacy lives on in the garage scene today and the culture it created. Now, well into the years of their alliance, Christophe Monier of The Micronauts and Thomas Regnault’s project Rituel has brought life back to the legend wit their track ‘Club Zanzibar’. Off of their second EP Deux, (check out their first EP Un here), ‘Club Zanzibar’ is a mixture of tribal African vocal samples along top a funky house groove. Paying homage to the birthplace of the scene and the Tanzanian archipelago, Rituel creates a sensual message of life and connectivity as the song’s dynamism reaches a point of climax during the chorus. The 6 track EP will come with radio, instrumental and club versions of ‘Club Zanzibar’ and another original ‘Nirvana Dance’.
